Day 1 26.05.2025 - Departure to Yerevan

Group meeting on 26.05.2025 at Sofia Airport. Flight to Yerevan. Once we arrive at the airport in Yerevan, we will be met by our friend and local guide who will accompany us to the hotel. The rest of the day the program is free - time for rest.

Our journey begins in the heart of Armenia - ancient and charming Yerevan. A city older than Rome, dating back to 782 BC, Yerevan enchants with its warm atmosphere and unique architecture. Called the “Pink City” for its distinctive pink tuff, a volcanic stone from which most buildings are constructed, it casts a soft, golden glow at sunset.

We'll stroll through the city's most iconic spots: the elegant Republic Square with its dancing fountains, the majestic Opera House, the romantic Swan Lake and the lively Northern Avenue - the city's trendiest street, full of galleries, cafes and style. We'll climb the Cascade, a monumental staircase and open-air gallery of contemporary art, where each level reveals a new view and sculptural surprise. From the top, you will have a breathtaking panorama of the entire city and the majestic Mount Ararat, a sacred symbol of Armenian identity.

Next, travel to the spiritual heart of the country, Echmiadzin, the world's first Christian church, built in 303 after the adoption of Christianity as the state religion. The UNESCO-listed monastery complex transports us to a world of profound silence and awe.

After this spiritual walk, we will move on to the gustatory - we will enjoy the traditional Armenian “dolma”, an aromatic mixture of meat and spices wrapped in grape leaves. We will join a masterclass to learn the intricacies of its preparation, a ritual passed down from generation to generation.

After lunch, our first immersion in the Armenian wine culture awaits - the winery Vozkevaz, where we will taste fine local wines and explore the authentic cellar, preserving the secrets of a thousand-year-old tradition.

After returning to Yerevan, you will have free time - opportunity for a street walk Saryan, which has become synonymous with wine life and the artistic soul of the city.

The evening will end with a welcome dinner at a traditional Armenian restaurant where, accompanied by live folk music, we will experience the spirit, taste and rhythm of Armenia - as only it can offer.

Hotel: 4* DoubleTree by Hilton Yerevan City Centre

Food: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

After breakfast at the hotel you will travel to one of the most sacred and loaded with history places in Armenia - the monastery. Virap Choir. Its very name means “deep pit” - a reference to the underground prison in which Saint Gregory the Illuminator spent 14 years before healing King Trdat III and laying the foundations of Christian Armenia. Here, at the closest point to the legendary Mount Ararat, you'll face one of the most breathtaking vistas in the entire country - the majestic silhouette of the biblical mountain towering over the plains, contemplated for centuries with reverence and hope.

We continue to one of Armenia's hidden architectural gems - Noravank Monastery. Set amid reddish canyons and sheer cliffs, this 13th century masterpiece impresses not only for its rich cultural and spiritual significance, but also for its bold and elegant design. Designed by the legendary Armenian architect and sculptor Momik, Noravank is one of the few monasteries in the world with two floors vertically stacked on top of each other - an architectural feat that fits perfectly into the harsh natural setting around it.

Against the backdrop of these ancient and inspiring views, we will pause for lunch in a village Areni - home of one of the most delicious Armenian dishes: chorovac, juicy and aromatic Armenian barbecue cooked over a live fire in the traditional way.

After the delicious experience awaits us an encounter with one of the most amazing archaeological discoveries of our time - the the oldest winery in the world, dating back to 6100 BC, discovered in Areni. We will visit a local winery where we will taste wine made from the unique local variety Areni Noar, grown at the foot of the rocky hills and imbued with the spirit of the millennia. In addition, the world's oldest leather shoe has been discovered here - further proof of the deep roots of this land.

In the evening we return to Yerevan, where the day will end with dinner in a traditional restaurantYou will try a plethora of - stuffed pumpkin with rice, fruit and aromatic spices, served warm and fragrant, in the company of other local specialties. A taste of Armenia will embrace you with the warmth and richness of its cuisine - the end of a day that will stay with you long after the last bite and sip.

After breakfast we will head to one of the most beautiful and magnetic places in Armenia - the lake Sevan, also known as the "Blue Pearl of the Caucasus". Located at an altitude of nearly 2000 metres above sea level, it is one of the world's largest high-altitude freshwater lakes. Sometimes, when the sky is clear and the wind is asleep, the illusion is created that the water is merging with the canopy of the sky - an almost unreal picture of blue reflections, calm and spaciousness.

We climb the stairs to Sevanavank Monastery, perched on the peninsula, from where you can enjoy impressive views of the endless expanse of water. Built in the 9th century, this monastery is not only a historical shrine, but also a jewel in the crown of Armenian cultural memory - a place that combines spirituality and natural beauty in perfect unity.

After taking in the views and fresh air, our journey continues to Djilijan - a city often referred to as the "Armenian Switzerland". Nestled in the green embrace of the Caucasus Mountains, this resort town is known for its dense forests, crystal clear air and idyllic atmosphere.

Here you will be welcomed into a traditional local house where you will take part in the preparation of gata - one of the most beloved Armenian desserts. This delicate, layered sweetness with symbolic meaning of hospitality and joie de vivre will show you another face of the rich Armenian gastronomy.

On the way back to Yerevan we will make a stop in the wine-raki factory "Izhevan"established in Soviet times and has become an emblem of Armenian winemaking. We will take a look behind the scenes of production, feel the aroma of oak barrels and taste carefully selected wines - each with a story, each with character.

The day will end with dinner at a stylish Caucasian restaurant in Yerevan, where we will immerse ourselves in the richness of the Georgian and Armenian cuisine, in the subtle balance of spiciness, flavors and heat.

This evening will add another touch to the colourful taste of Armenia - a destination that is experienced with all the senses.

Food: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Our last day in Armenia will be dedicated to some of the most iconic and spiritually saturated places in the country. We will start with a visit to Geghard Monastery - an architectural marvel partially carved into the rocks of the mountain, as if the earth itself had opened up to house this holy place. The monastery is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason - its stone halls and chapels, acoustics that resonate with sound for up to 40 seconds, and its mysterious resonance points, still unexplained by science, make it a mystical experience.

His name - Gegard, comes from the "Sacred Spear" (Gegard), which is believed to have been kept here. According to legend, this is the spear with which a Roman soldier pierced Christ on the cross, a relic brought to Armenia by the Apostle Thaddeus.

After this exciting spiritual encounter we will be transported to an even deeper antiquity - to the the pagan temple of Garni. Built in the 1st century AD and dedicated to the sun god Mihr, this temple is a unique example of ancient architecture in the region. A symbol of eternal light and resilience, Garni stands proudly on the edge of a dramatic gorge, revealing majestic views of the surrounding countryside.

After the walk, we will immerse ourselves in the warm hospitality of an Armenian home, where not just lunch, but an experience awaits us. We will participate in lavash masterclass - the thin traditional Armenian bread, recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Then we will taste freshly prepared Armenian troutprepared according to a local recipe with a lot of love and skill.

In the afternoon we will return to Yerevan to visit the legendary "Ararat" Armenian brandy factory - synonymous with longevity, tradition and refined taste. We will learn more about its production and taste some of its best varieties - a real treat for connoisseurs of good drink.

At the end of the day we will have free time to walk around Vernissage - outdoor market and art exhibition in one. This is the perfect place to discover unique souvenirs: hand-woven carpets, copper ornaments, paintings, wood carvings, bags, jewelry and other traditional Armenian items to take a piece of Armenia home with you.

Our farewell dinner will be at another selected traditional restaurantwhere you will try a different style Armenian barbecue - the final sip of this culinary and cultural journey.

Food: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Today will take us high into the mountains, to a place where history and nature meet in dramatic harmony. After breakfast we head to Amberd - a medieval fortress whose name means "fortress in the clouds". Elevated 2300 meters above sea level, on the slopes of the majestic mountain Aragats, it is perched on a rocky plateau protected on three sides by steep canyons and deep gorges. The views here are stunning - as if time has stood still to preserve the grandeur of this architectural sentinel over the centuries.

From the fortress we will descend to the softer side of Armenia - its organic vineyards, where tradition and contemporary taste meet. We will visit винарна Van Ardi, set among the gentle hills where grapes ripen under the Caucasian sun. During the guided tour we will learn more about the local varieties, follow the path of the grapes from vine to glass, and hear the stories that are born in each barrel. We finish with tasting of three fine wines, each of which bears the characteristic handwriting of the region.

After a delicious lunch with local dishes, we will head to one of the most spiritual places in Armenia - Saghmosavank Monastery, nestled on the edge of a deep canyon gorge. Built in the 13th century, this monastery was named after the Armenian word "sagmos" - psalm. According to legend, it was here that St. Gregory the Illuminator gathered disciples to whom he taught spiritual chants and poetry. The landscape around Saghmosavank is both austere and sublime - a panorama that humbles and inspires.

Before returning to Yerevan, we will visit the landmark fruit market - a colourful, aromatic extravaganza of flavours, where we will dive into Armenian abundance: juicy fruits, tempting dried treats, fragrant herbs and spices that will tempt you to take them home.

In the evening we will gather again in a cozy restaurant where you will have the opportunity to taste one of the culinary treasures of the country - Gurney Yarag. This dish, combining tender veal and aubergines, will impress you with its deep flavour and aroma, leaving the final note of the day - warm, filling and authentic.
